However, it also works great as a prelude to a service, special music for a service showcasing the Brass Quartet, or even for offertory.
O God, our Help in Ages Past is based mainly in faith and trust in God. The message is meant to be one of comfort, and putting fears toward God rather manifesting our own anxieties internally. With this, the hymn can be helpful for either a Funeral Service, a helpful reminder during times of change or inconsistencies, or even in celebration during times of faithfulness.

Performance notes:
The arrangement can also be shorted if need be with multiple ways to cut the piece. The only parts that must be included is the introduction and Verse #1. The rest is up to the performers on what is appropriate for the service. There are also Optional Chords or Optional Bridges in the arrangement itself if the performs want speciality transitions between verses, or if they just want to play through all of the verses back to back.
If you play the Optional Chords, do not play the Bridge. If you play the Bridges, do not play the Optional Chords.
